FREMONT, CA — Two armed teenagers forced their way into an apartment on San Pedro Drive on Friday afternoon and assaulted the two people inside, and one of those residents ended the attack by taking a suspect’s gun away from him and shooting him with it, according to the Fremont Police Department.

Officers were called to the residence at about 12:13 p.m. on August 21, 2026, and found a male with a gunshot wound. They provided medical aid, and he was taken to a local trauma center, where he died of his injuries.

Police say the incident began as an armed residential burglary. Two teenage suspects forced entry into the apartment. They attacked the occupants. During the struggle that followed, one occupant gained control of a suspect’s firearm and fired it, fatally wounding one of the teenagers.

Disarming an armed attacker is not a plan. It is what is left when every other option is gone, and it works only because someone decided in the middle of being beaten that he was not going to stop fighting. That is mindset doing the work.

More from USA Carry:

The second suspect ran. Officers located and identified him a short time later, and he was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center on charges of residential burglary and felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm, police say. Those are booking charges, they are allegations, and he has not been convicted of anything. Police have not released his name or the name of the teenager who died.

The two occupants sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening. They have not been identified, which is normal this early and normal for people who were victims of a violent crime in their own home. The investigation remains active. Fremont police say anyone with information can reach the Investigations Unit at (510) 790-6900, and the department accepts anonymous tips.
