STOCKTON, CA – A homeowner shot and killed a man who was allegedly attempting to break into a residence early Saturday morning, according to authorities.
Police responded to a report of a shooting around 1:30 a.m. in the 3600 block of Appleton Court, just south of West Benjamin Holt Drive in Stockton. When officers arrived, they located a 41-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Investigators said the man had reportedly been attempting to force entry into the home when the resident discharged a firearm. The injured man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The Stockton Police Department confirmed that detectives are actively investigating the incident. Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting, and it remains unclear whether any criminal charges will be filed. Police have not yet stated whether the shooting will be ruled justified.
Officials have not released the identities of those involved pending further investigation.
