Taurus has announced the launch of the TX9, a new line of striker-fired 9mm pistols designed from the ground up as the company’s first duty-grade handgun platform. The TX9 expands the popular TX™ line — best known for the TX22 rimfire pistol — into centerfire territory with a modular chassis system, optics-ready slides, and configurations tailored for duty, concealed carry, and home defense.

Developed and manufactured in the USA, the TX9 was engineered to meet rigorous standards, including NATO military and global law enforcement requirements. At its core is the Taurus Modular System: a serialized internal chassis that allows users to easily swap frames, slides, and grip modules without affecting the firearm’s serialized part. This design mirrors other modern modular handguns, providing flexibility for end users to tailor their pistol to specific applications or personal preferences.

The TX9 platform is available in three sizes:

  • TX9 Full Size: 4.5-inch barrel, 17+1 capacity, optimized for duty or home defense.
  • TX9 Compact: 4.0-inch barrel, 15+1 capacity, versatile for concealed carry and training.
  • TX9 Subcompact: 3.4-inch barrel, 13+1 capacity, ideal for discreet carry.

All three models share a consistent control layout, striker-fired trigger with approximately a 4.5-pound break, and the Taurus Optics Ready Option (T.O.R.O.) slide cut, compatible with many popular red dot sights. They also feature forward cocking serrations, industry-standard dovetail iron sights, accessory rails, and include three interchangeable backstraps per pistol for improved fit.

The inclusion of ambidextrous slide releases and a reversible magazine catch highlights Taurus’ effort to appeal to both left- and right-handed shooters. Each pistol ships with two magazines and, thanks to the shared architecture, magazines can often cross between models (e.g., using a full-size mag in a compact frame for training).

With the TX9, Taurus positions itself more directly in the duty and defensive handgun market, competing with established modular pistol systems. Built entirely in the U.S. at Taurus’ Bainbridge, Georgia facility, the TX9 marks a notable shift for the brand, emphasizing performance, modularity, and adaptability for serious use.

For concealed carriers and professionals alike, the modular nature of the TX9 allows for personalization without needing to involve an FFL for every frame change. The serialized chassis system opens the door for third-party grip modules, improved textures, and even DIY customizations — features that appeal to modern shooters looking for both performance and flexibility. Taurus has steadily improved its offerings in recent years, and the TX9 could become a major contender in the growing field of modular striker-fired pistols.
