CONCORD, NC (3-minute read) — A community Christmas tree lighting event in Concord, North Carolina was shattered by gunfire Friday night, leaving four people hospitalized and many others fleeing in panic. Authorities have since identified three suspects involved in the shooting, clarifying that this was not a random attack but a targeted dispute between individuals who knew each other.

Thugs Gonna Thug

According to the Concord Police Department, the incident unfolded just before 7:30 p.m. in the heart of downtown during what was meant to be a joyful holiday gathering. The violence began when 18-year-old Nasir Ahma Bostic and a juvenile suspect opened fire. Both are currently hospitalized in critical condition and face serious charges, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inciting a riot. A third individual, 17-year-old Keyvyonn Rayshaund Bostic, has been charged as an accessory after the fact and with inciting a riot. He was not injured and was taken into custody following the incident.

Police also reported that two other 17-year-olds were shot, with one still in critical condition. Emergency responders were already on site for the event, enabling them to provide immediate medical assistance and help evacuate the area quickly.

Despite the tragedy, Concord Mayor Bill Dusch emphasized the resilience of the community. He announced that the city would proceed with the 97th annual Concord Christmas Parade and the Santa Scramble 5K, both scheduled for the following day. Extra security measures have been added to ensure the safety of all attendees.

Community Safety and Law Enforcement Response

Police are still investigating and have urged the public to share any photos or videos taken at the scene. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Concord Police at (704) 920-5027.

This incident serves as a sobering reminder of how quickly public gatherings can become vulnerable when disputes escalate to violence. Understanding the importance of de-escalation, firearm safety, and responsible concealed carry can play a major role in preventing such tragedies.

Safety Tip: Always be aware of your surroundings at public events, and if you carry a firearm legally, ensure it is secured, accessible only to you, and that you’re trained to act responsibly under pressure.
