Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to disarm the terrorist group Hamas and demilitarize Gaza. Netanyahu made the comments during a speech before the Knesset on Monday, as Palestinian officials arrived in Cairo for further peace negotiations.

The Israeli ruler added that he expected to forge additional peace agreements in the region with the United States president, Donald Trump. He also said that the current deal provided for the return of all Israeli hostages, the Israeli military’s control over the majority of Gaza’s territory, and an internationally backed consensus that Hamas would be disarmed.

According to a report by The Guardian, the speech came just hours after Netanyahu met the U.S. Middle East envoy, and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who flew to Israel to discuss Sunday’s breaches of the Gaza ceasefire. The U.S. vice president, JD Vance, was expected to arrive in Israel on Tuesday to further discuss the implementation of the ceasefire.

The peace plan could be collapsing. The 10-day ceasefire in Gaza was rocked on Sunday after an attack by Hamas militants that killed two Israeli soldiers, prompting Israel to launch a wave of airstrikes across the Strip, resulting in the deaths of 44 Palestinians. Hamas denied being involved in the attack.

Ceasefire Brokered By Trump Already Failed: Israel Strikes Gaza

A Palestinian delegation headed to Cairo for talks on how to implement the second stage of the U.S.-drafted ceasefire plan, even though the first step appears to have already failed. Khalil al-Hayya, the exiled head of Hamas, would discuss ways to form a technocratic body to run Gaza without the participation of the militant group, a Palestinian official told Reuters.

Will this peace deal go through? What do you think? Let us know in the comments, and let’s discuss.
