NASHVILLE, TN — A 22-year-old man was fatally shot early Thursday morning after allegedly forcing his way into a home in Nashville’s Bordeaux neighborhood, where his ex-girlfriend was visiting her current boyfriend. The incident, reported around 12:30 a.m., occurred in the 3700 block of Hydes Ferry Road, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department and as reported by WSMV.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Tariq Anderson of Nashville suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit learned that the woman involved had been visiting her 39-year-old boyfriend at his residence when Anderson arrived and began banging on the front door and window. After what she described as a prolonged disturbance, she opened the door to go outside. Anderson allegedly forced his way inside and walked toward the 39-year-old man.

The woman told detectives she then heard multiple gunshots. The 39-year-old man fled the scene and remains at large. Police are actively seeking him for questioning.

Three individuals were inside the home at the time of the shooting: the woman, her ex-boyfriend, and her current boyfriend. The investigation into the exact circumstances and the credibility of the woman’s statement is ongoing, according to WSMV.

Anderson’s death is being investigated as a domestic-related fatal shooting. No charges have been filed at this time.

Deadly force is legally justified when a person reasonably believes they are facing an imminent threat of death or serious bodily harm. While this case remains under investigation, it highlights how quickly domestic situations can escalate into violence and why understanding self-defense laws is critical for those faced with sudden, potentially life-threatening confrontations.
