Kiev Faces Conscription Problems: Mayor Suggests Lowering the Draft Age

As Ukraine continues to face major hurdles in the war, like conscripting enough people to fight the war, new policies are suggested. Now, the Kiev mayor, Vitaly Klitschko, has suggested that lowering the draft age from 25 to 18 could be a solution to no one wanting to fight in the war.

The ruling class still has not figured out that not very many intelligent moral human beings want to fight for any regime.

Last year, Ukraine lowered the draft age from 27 to 25 and tightened enforcement to replenish the ranks of its military as troops continue to suffer heavy losses and lose ground to Russian forces. Some Western officials have urged Kiev to drop it to 18, but Volodymyr Zelensky has resisted, calling instead for more military aid.

In an interview with Politico (as reported by Pravda) published on Wednesday, Klitschko said Ukraine faces a worsening soldier shortage as record numbers of men flee abroad and mobilization fails to fill the ranks.

Why Military Conscription Is Worse Than Slavery

“We have huge problems with soldiers – with human resources,” Klitschko said, disturbingly. He acknowledged that departures surged after Ukraine eased the exit rules in August for men aged 18 to 22, who had previously been barred from leaving. Eurostat data showed European Union states granted over 79,000 new temporary protection decisions to Ukrainians in September, up 49% from August and the highest monthly rise since mid-2023, according to a report by RT.

Ukraine has been accused of human rights violations that go above and beyond forcing people to kill or be killed. They went so far as to kidnap people who didn’t want to go to war and force them into military service.

Ukraine Orders Its Officers To “Capture” 12 Men A Day For Conscription

“In the past, 18-year-olds served in the army,” he noted. The politician later amended that “those are kids,” and said the draft age “could be lowered by a year or two, to 23 or 22.” Klitschko said that lowering the age of conscription would help the military grow.

Ukrainians have started fighting back, however. An individual facing forced conscription has reportedly shot and wounded two military commissioners. This is for sure, self-defense. No one, no matter what uniform they wear or what organization or ruling class they represent, has the right to force anyone into being cannon fodder for a war.
