BOLIVAR PENINSULA, TX (3-minute read) — Law enforcement ramped up efforts at this year’s Jeep Weekend on Bolivar Peninsula, resulting in 161 arrests by Saturday, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office. Among those arrests, 23 were for felony offenses and 165 for misdemeanors. Authorities also confiscated 30 firearms during the event, although additional details on those arrests have not yet been released.

The heightened police presence—over 520 officers from 16 different agencies—was part of a broader initiative to prevent violent incidents seen in previous years. Sheriff Jimmy Fullen stated that these efforts included checkpoints, 30 EMS units, and even aerial surveillance provided by Life Flight.

Strict New Safety Rules Enforced at Jeep Weekend 2025

Several new regulations were rolled out this year to minimize chaos. These include:

  • No parking or trailer unloading on the beach
  • Ban on golf carts, ATVs, and dirt bikes on the sand
  • No glass containers, bonfires, or mass gatherings
  • Mandatory leashes for pets
  • A strict 15 mph speed limit
  • Stay off sand dunes

Public safety zones were also established, where standing, stopping, or parking were prohibited. These zones were active from Friday, May 16 at 6 a.m. through Monday, May 19 at midnight.

Despite these new guidelines, Friday night saw heavy traffic with cars lined up to enter the event, suggesting attendance remained high. However, the record number of arrests and the seizure of 30 firearms indicate that not all attendees followed the rules.

At this time, law enforcement has not released identities or further details related to the arrests or charges. The focus appears to remain on maintaining safety through the remainder of the weekend.

Safety Tip: If you’re attending large public events, always be aware of your surroundings and know local laws regarding firearm possession.
