For Episode 343 of the series, we’re going back to a trip filmed on June 29th. This time I flew Spirit Airlines from New Orleans to Las Vegas, and the entire process was as smooth as it gets.

Check-In at MSY

I walked up to the Spirit counter and said what I usually say: “Declare firearms” then had my ID ready since they always ask for it. The agent handed me the orange firearm declaration form, and I filled it out as usual.

My Pelican 1507 Air Case case was inside a regular piece of luggage, so I stuck the declaration form on the outside of the case, locked it up, and zipped the bag closed. There were no extra questions and no delays. Once the bag was taken, I headed straight to security.

Arrival in Las Vegas

After landing at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, I went to baggage claim to see where the bag would come out. On Spirit, it normally arrives on the regular carousel with everything else, and that’s exactly what happened here. My bag came out like any other piece of luggage. Locks were still on, everything looked the same as when I handed it over.

Final Thoughts

This flight was another example of how streamlined the process can be when declaring and traveling with firearms. Spirit handled everything quickly, MSY check-in was easy, and the arrival in Las Vegas was as simple as grabbing the bag off the conveyor belt and heading out.

If you follow the rules, pack your gear correctly, and stay consistent, most of these trips feel just like this one.
