CHICAGO, IL — A concealed carry holder opened fire on a suspected car thief who allegedly attempted to run him over with his own stolen vehicle early Sunday morning in the South Shore neighborhood, according to a report by CWB Chicago.

The incident occurred around 7:14 a.m. in an alley behind the 6800 block of South Cornell Avenue. The armed citizen told authorities he was the victim of a vehicle theft involving two suspects who had just taken his blue 2023 Acura. During the encounter, one of the suspects reportedly tried to run him over using the stolen car, prompting the gun owner to fire his weapon in self-defense.

Minutes after the shooting, a 23-year-old man arrived at the University of Chicago Medical Center suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower back. He was rushed into surgery and was listed in critical condition.

Chicago police recovered three shell casings at the scene and interviewed the concealed carry license holder. As of Sunday evening, no charges had been filed against any individuals involved.

This incident is a clear example of quick thinking under extreme pressure. According to the report, the concealed carry holder fired only when one of the suspects allegedly tried to run him over with his own stolen car. Thankfully, he was not struck. While full details are still emerging, his ability to respond swiftly and accurately may have prevented a far worse outcome. Situations like this underscore the importance of being prepared to act decisively when faced with a sudden, life-threatening assault.
