The United States ruling class is alleging that Iran fired missiles at a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday night. These strikes threaten to destabilize the already shaky memorandum of understanding signed by both the US and Iranian presidents.

Donald Trump announced “major combat operations” against Iran on February 28th, with massive joint U.S.-Israeli strikes targeting military, government, and infrastructure sites. This was, which “ended” in a US surrender, is precariously perched on an agreement that is a huge loss for the US.

In spite of the agreement, the US and Iran nonetheless exchanged limited strikes in late June despite the signing of the memorandum and amid the continuation of peace talks. We reported on the strikes, in which both sides accused the other of “violations” of the interim ceasefire agreement.

The US and Iran Exchange Strikes

Most recently, the US accused Iran of striking a United Kingdom vessel. There was a report by the UK Maritime Trade Operations Center of an “unknown projectile” striking a tanker off the Omani coast early on Tuesday.

“No casualties or environmental impact reported,” UKMTO said.

The tanker, which was not identified by name, caught fire after the strike, UKMTO said in a warning posted on social media. UKMTO has recommended that vessels proceed with caution when traversing the Strait of Hormuz.

US mainstream media outlet Axios reported that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) carried out the strikes on two commercial ships transiting through the Strait of Hormuz, citing statements from a US official.

According to a report by DW, Iran has continued to threaten to take action against ships that use routes outside an authorized corridor along its coastline. Iran has also stated it wants to set up a fee system for vessels to use the Strait, which the US opposes.

Giving Iran Permanent Control Of The Strait Of Hormuz Will Be A Disaster For The Global Economy
