Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Episode 59 was filmed May 20th, flying Southwest from Las Vegas to New Orleans. This one had a wrinkle at check-in, but nothing that changed the outcome.

Check-In at LAS

Declared firearms. This trip I was traveling with my large Pelican rifle case carrying a rifle and a few handguns. Because of the size, it went to the oversized baggage area instead of the standard belt.

That’s when the agent let me know the TSA oversized belt had been down for about 30 minutes. She said there was no point in waiting by the flagpole — if TSA needed access, they’d call me. I appreciated the heads up, but I waited my usual 15 minutes anyway. If they need me, I want to be there. Nobody called, so I headed through security.

Arrival in New Orleans

A rifle case doesn’t come out on the carousel. I went to the Southwest office at MSY, showed my ID, and they handed it over. Locked, intact, good to go.

Final Thoughts

Equipment changes the process a little. Rifle case means oversized drop-off and office pickup instead of the carousel. The declaration and the wait are still the same.
