ABINGTON, PA (2-minute read) — A man was arrested after being shot while attempting a home invasion in Abington, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred after the suspect followed a woman home from a casino, believing she had cash in her possession. Authorities identified the suspect as Khabir Shepard, who now faces multiple charges, including robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and carrying a firearm without a license.

The crime unfolded around 1 a.m. on a Monday when Abington police responded to a call about a home invasion. Upon arrival at the residence on Horace Avenue, officers were met by the woman, who explained that an unknown man forced his way into her home after she returned from a casino. Shepard allegedly held her at gunpoint, pushed her to the ground, and attempted to steal her purse.

The commotion woke up the woman’s son, who retrieved his legally owned firearm to defend his mother. After confronting Shepard and seeing that he was armed, the son fired two shots, striking Shepard in the arm and back. Shepard fled the scene but collapsed on the front lawn, where police found him along with a handgun believed to belong to him.

Authorities transported Shepard to a hospital for treatment of his gunshot wounds before placing him under arrest. He was later remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility with bail set at $250,000. Police confirmed that Shepard had targeted the woman after watching her at the casino, knowing she likely had winnings in her possession.

Police continue to investigate whether other individuals were involved in the incident.
