CHICAGO, IL — A 19-year-old man identified as Mekhi Moore, also known by the nickname “Glizzy the Tweeker,” was fatally shot during what authorities believe was a robbery attempt gone wrong on the city’s South Side.

Chicago Police responded to a call of two people shot near 89th Street and Michigan Avenue at approximately 5:03 p.m. on September 26, 2025. When officers arrived, they found Moore lying in the street suffering from four gunshot wounds to the chest. Officers rendered CPR on scene before he was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to CPD, Moore had arrived at the location with a group of individuals believed to be involved in a robbery attempt. A legally armed construction contractor at the site, who possesses a valid Concealed Carry License (CCL), discharged his firearm during the confrontation. Moore was struck multiple times. The remaining suspects reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived.

Two firearms were recovered at the scene. The contractor was taken into custody for questioning, and the investigation remains ongoing by Area Two Detectives. At this time, no charges have been filed against the contractor, and police are continuing to search for the other individuals involved.

Moore would have turned 20 years old the day after the incident.

This incident underscores the value of being legally armed and prepared to respond to sudden threats. In situations where lives are at risk, having the means and readiness to defend oneself can make all the difference. Concealed carry license holders, like the contractor in this case, are often the first line of defense when faced with violent criminal activity.
