CHELAN, WA (3-minute read) — A multi-county manhunt is underway in Washington State for 32-year-old Travis Decker, a former U.S. Army soldier accused of the horrific murders of his three daughters. Law enforcement officials have warned residents in Chelan, Kittitas, King, Snohomish, and Okanogan counties to remain on high alert as Decker remains missing and is considered armed and dangerous.

Decker is believed to have extensive survival training, leading authorities to suspect he may be hiding out in remote forested areas, including the Cascade Mountains. His daughters, ages 9, 8, and 5, were found deceased near a campground in central Washington just days after their mother reported them missing when Decker failed to return them following a scheduled visit.

His abandoned pickup truck was later discovered near the scene, but there has been no sign of him since.

In response to the developing threat, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office is advising residents in remote and rural regions to secure all buildings, including sheds and outbuildings, and to leave exterior lights on through the night. Homeowners are also being asked to keep blinds open to assist with law enforcement surveillance. Authorities have issued search warrants for Decker’s electronic devices, and while exact findings remain confidential, new leads are guiding the ongoing investigation.

Authorities Warn: Suspect May Be Living Off the Grid

Officials emphasize that Decker, who served in the military, has the skills to live off the land for extended periods with minimal supplies. This makes him particularly difficult to track and dangerous to approach. While authorities have not confirmed whether he is armed, his background and the nature of the crimes have led them to assume the worst.

The ongoing search has led to the closure of the Enchantments—a popular hiking destination in the Cascade Range—through at least June 18. The area remains under tight surveillance as law enforcement scours trails and forested areas for any sign of the fugitive.

Decker is described as 5’8” tall, weighing around 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen in a light-colored shirt and dark shorts. Authorities urge anyone who spots him to stay away and call 911 immediately.

Safety Tip: If you live in a remote area, always keep emergency supplies on hand, including a flashlight, extra phone battery, and secure firearm storage. Know your local laws and practice situational awareness when suspicious activity arises.
